NATIONAL FINDINGS
Ten years in the county-coded archive
The publication contains 372,980 reports across 3,308 county or county-equivalent codes. Thunderstorm Wind and Hail dominate the county-coded slice, while many zone-coded winter, heat, drought, and coastal records are intentionally outside this county-only analysis.
Why that matters
A chart of these pages is not a chart of all hazardous weather. It is a chart of NOAA records assigned to county codes under this filter. Readers comparing event types should understand that NOAA stores some phenomena primarily as forecast-zone records.
Useful comparisons
Within the same event type, the annual and monthly traces show how archived reporting changed. Within one county, the type index shows the local mix. Population rates add context only when a valid ACS match exists; they do not rank safety.
